Special Recognition

2017

Artistic expression provides unique and creative ways to share God-given gifts and talents to impact others. Through Christian Academy’s growing and awardwinning School of the Arts, students have numerous opportunities to develop their gifts.

Art students at the English Station campus of Christian Academy School System were awarded 56 Scholastic Arts Awards in 2017 at the Louisville Metropolitan Region Student Art Awards Ceremony.

“This is the largest art competition in the world with more than 330,000 students competing. It is such an honor for our students to have their work selected for 28 Honorable Mentions, 14 Silver Keys and 14 Gold Keys, which also included 1 National Gold Medal, 6 National Silver Medals and 1 National American Visionary Award,” art teacher Tammy Cusick said. “Our students are gifted artists and work throughout their high school art career to assemble a quality portfolio including these pieces.”

Each year, the art program focuses on building the strength of each individual student recognizing each class is unique. Cusick focuses their attention on learning and improving their strengths.

For 13 years, Cusick was the middle school art teacher and is currently in her eighth year at the high school level. The art program continues to grow and enrolls more students each year. We now offer 13 different art classes ranging from drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture and the digital arts. We offer AP Studio Drawing, AP 2-D Design and AP 3-D Design.

“In our upper levels we discuss art and learn to critique art as well. Students give and take honest criticism and feedback, helping each other improve their art,” Cusick said.
