Chess

Christian Academy School System | Southwest Campus | Clubs | Chess

At Southwest, Chess has caught fire! This is our third year and club meetings include students in grades Kindegarten-8th grade, and attendance grows weekly. Students learn the basics of chess, but also develop problem-solving skills. Students who have developed their skills are now competing against other schools in Jefferson County.

In just two years, CAL-SW has won the West District in the JCPS Chess League! As a team, the Saints finished 3rd in the region, and qualified for the state championship this year where only 16 middle school teams from the entire state of Kentucky competed. Our middle school chess team placed 4th in Kentucky Team State Competition.

Chess develops critical thinking and discipline which is great addition to the curriculum at Southwest. For more information about the Chess Club, please contact Robert Hennig at robert.hennig@jefferson.kyschools.us.

Junior Beta Club

The National Beta Club recognizes high academic achievement, promotes character and social responsibility, encourages service involvement to school and community, fosters leadership skills, and provides settings for students to develop interpersonal relationship skills. We are proud of our middle school students who have qualified for this honor.
