The largest independent school in Louisville plans to break ground on a new facility this summer.
Christian Academy of Louisville will construct a new building at its English Station campus at 700 S. English Station Road, according to a news release. The 13,000-square-foot building will house Christian Academy’s Junior Academy Program for three and four-year-olds.
The Junior Academy building will include eight classrooms, a multi-purpose room, a new playground and separate drop-off and pick-up lanes. It is scheduled to open for the 2024-2025 school year.
This building was part of Christian Academy’s $5.4 million capital campaign that ended in 2019, but the project was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic, building additional elementary classrooms in 2024 and rising construction costs and building supplies, the release said.
The Junior Academy project is estimated to cost $4.2 million. The architect is McCulloch Associates Architects.
The building will add very little to the school’s student capacity, but it will allow for the outdoor learning cottages to be removed and move those six classrooms back into the main building, the release continued.
According to Louisville Business First research, Christian Academy of Louisville's English Station campus had K-5 enrollment of 1,152 students during the 2022-2023 school year, making it the largest independent school in the region. In total, in pre-K through12th grade, the school system serves 3,000 students in Louisville and Southern Indiana.
