GENERAL:

  • Beta Club:  Invitations to join the National Beta Club were delivered this week to sophomores, juniors, and seniors who have attained a weighted 3.5 GPA. Congratulations!  The Beta Club is the largest, independent, educational youth organization in America, emphasizing the four pillars of academic achievement, character, leadership, and service.  Our motto is “Let us lead by serving others”.  If you are already a Beta Club member at CAL, you will not receive another invitation (you’re already in)!  If you were previously invited but did not join at that time, you will not be receiving another invitation.  If you are a transfer student at CAL, and you were already a high school member at your previous school, please email [email protected]. Your membership can easily be transferred.  If you think you should have received an invitation and didn’t, please email [email protected] or stop by Room 207 by the end of the week.
  • Our Director of Biblical Unity, Mr. Deon Parker (along with a handful of other Christian Academy employees) will be leading joint CAI & CAL to Cincinnati, Ohio, and Nicholasville & Wilmore, Kentucky this Fall. We have only 15 student spots from each school for each field trip. So, if you would like to participate in one of these wonderful trips, please register and pay as soon as possible:) Additional info can be found in the email Mr. Parker sent you all this morning.

MEETINGS:
  • HOSA meets TODAY (10-1) during lunch!  Grab your lunch, quickly move to the media center to check in, and get settled.  Our first speaker will be ready to go.  See you at lunch!
  •  Governor’s Scholar:  All Juniors who are interested in applying for the Governor’s Scholar Program are invited to meet with the counselors in Mr. Ashcraft’s classroom (#219) on Wednesday, October 1. During this time, you will be provided with the details regarding the application process.
  • CAL Garden Club will meet on Wednesday, October 1, from 3:20 – 4 @ the Shirley Poulter Pavilion (outdoor classroom).  Come and join us!!!
  • COLLEGE VISIT – Tuesday, October 14: Furman University in the cafeteria at break
    COLLEGE VISIT – Wednesday, October 15: Western Kentucky University in the cafeteria at break
    COLLEGE VISIT – Friday, October 17: Grand Canyon University  – The GCU visit will take place during break in Mr. Ashcraft’s classroom (room #219). JOB OPPORTUNITIES:

  • Jr. Academy After School Care is hiring!  Are you 18 years old and want to earn extra money while working with our youngest Centurions?  The schedule is flexible, starting right after school and working no later than 6:00 pm.  Work every day or only certain days as your schedule allows.  This is a great way to make extra money while never leaving campus and still having your evenings free!  If interested, contact Becky Davis, Junior Academy Director at [email protected] for more details.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:

  • Need service house?  Join us at the Walk to Independence event on Saturday, October 4, at the Waterfront. CAL sponsors a water station, and we need you to hand out water.   • The Elevation Worship Tour is coming to Louisville, KY on October 25th! We are in need of volunteers for this event, and the volunteers will get in for free and get to enjoy the show! They would be handing out packets during intermission and after the show. This can also count towards community service hours. Time: Saturday, October 25 · 5 pm, Location: KFC Yum! Center, Task: Handing out packets for World Vision

  • Need Service Hours?  Blackacre State Nature Preserve, 3200 Tucker Station Rd., has several opportunities…Fall Clean up 9/27,  Pumpkin Acre Event 10/5, Country Christmas 12/6. We need dancers to practice twice a month and perform on December 20th from 5-8pm at our Candlelight Tour. NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY! Teens will learn English square/folk dancing… similar to Barn Dancing. We need girls & guys as it is partner dancing.   • Lifeline Ministries is looking for volunteers to help with upcoming meal-packing events. We especially need 2–3 strong volunteers to lift and refill bins of rice, beans, and other supplies.  This is a great way to earn service hours while making a global impact! COUNSELORS:

  • The University of Louisville will host the School of Nursing Open House on Wednesday, Oct. 15, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Interested students should complete the Open House Registration to let them know you are coming.   • You are invited to the Louisville NACAC College Fair with100+ colleges from across the United States and overseas. The fair is free for all students and parents. This year’s fair is at the Kentucky International Convention Center (221 S 4th St., Louisville, KY 40202) on Tuesday, October 28. All that is required is that students sign up in advance at https://www.nacacattend.org/25louisville/register.
  • The Christian Connector is a free Christian College resource. Fill out the short form on their website https://christianconnector.com/chs, and you’re automatically entered into their annual $5,000 Christian College Scholarship Drawing. You can also select to receive information from over 90 of our Christian college partners. Open to all high school students – Freshmen through Seniors.  No essay.

ATHLETICS:

  • Wrestling…are you interested?  There will be an information meeting for any HS boys interested in wrestling on Thursday October 2, 2025 in room GM201 (room next to Athletic Office).
  • TENNIS…On Thursday, October 2, 2025, there will be an information meeting right after school in room GM202 for any high school boy interested in tennis.

  • Roll With Us This SeasonIt’s time to sign up for the CAL Bowling Team!  All students—both boys and girls, from every grade level—are welcome to join.  This is not just for Seniors! No prior experience is required (though it’s always a plus!).  Practices will begin after Fall Break and will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout October.  Matches start in November, with the full season running through the end of February. A complete schedule will be available next week.  If you’re interested, sign up through the athletic department or stop by and talk with Mr. Imlay in Room 227.
