Record Setting Season; We’ve Only Just Begun!
This young track season has already seen a number of CAI runners set personal records and a number of school records fall. This past Saturday, in less than ideal conditions, this trend continued. Freshman Devin Mielke set personal records in the 200m and the 400m, freshman Levi Doty set a PR in the shot put, and freshmen Grant Kalkenbrenner and Graham Gregory both set PR’s in the long jump. McKenna Cavanaugh continued having her way with decisive wins in the 1600m and the 3200m and sophomore Skylar Stidam broke the 3200m school record which he set by running a 9:51.57. With a number of other records expected to fall this year due to the most talented team CAI has ever fielded, a new Record Board is definitely going to be needed.
Warrior Nic Reed Makes the List
It is well known that Indiana High School basketball has no peer or rival. Simply put, it’s the best high school basketball in the world with the most rabid fans. To be considered as one of the best in this state is a feat worth noting. Warrior senior Nic Reed has done just that. He has made Hoosier Basketball Magazine’s TOP 100 Senior List. Nic was selected from more than 1600 senior players in the state. Further, he has been selected to participate in the TOP 60 Senior Workout. From the TOP 100, 60 seniors are selected to work out and show their skills in front of coaches from around the nation. Players that have been selected to this prestigious event in the past have include Cody Zellar, Yogi Ferrell, and Caleb Swanigan. Most of the players on the list have already made their commitments to play next year at the next level.
Nic, 6’5, 210, has a number of college offers on the table. CAI’s all-time leading scorer is taking his time in making his selection to ensure that he makes the right choice. Nic’s coach, Steve Kerberg, considers this to be a huge honor and achievement saying, “This is a big deal! I’ve had the privilege of coaching others that were selected and they ended up having great careers including playing in the pro’s overseas. This opens up so many doors.”
Warriors Swing Clubs to Victory
In only the first match of the second year since reinstituting golf, the Warrior duffers have come away victorious in a tri-match. Led by sophomores Sam Limeberry and Kevin Wang, who each shot a 42, the Warriors beat Charlestown and North Harrison by two strokes. Other scores were sophomore Zach Hampton 43, sophomore Hayden Hope 46, sophomore Dillon Kahl 54, and Freshman Carson Kastensmidt 60. This young team is definitely one to keep your eye on. Great job!!
Warrior Runners Run Wild
Led by Skylar Stidam and McKenna Cavanaugh, the Warrior track team had 12 competitors set personal records in last night’s quad-meet with new Washington, Rock Creek and Charlestown. Skylar Stidam won the 1600m, the 3200m and helped the 4×800 team along with Hunter Estes, Evan Heitz, and Alexander Nash to a dominant win beating the second place team by 20 seconds. McKenna Cavanaugh, a freshman, continued her domination by winning the 800m, 1600m and the 3200m. McKenna unofficially set the CAI 1600m record…AS A SEVENTH GRADER. However, she has now officially set the record at 5.28.5 smashing the old official record by 21 seconds.
CAI Archery Team Competes at State Meet!
Congratulations to the CAI Archery Team for competing at the State meet this past weekend. This was the team’s first trip to State where they showed that Archery is definitely a Warrior sport. Grant Kalkbrenner placed 5th in the state out of 343 competitors and was the number 3 freshman overall. Also, Delaney Phillips finished as the 10th overall female middle schooler in the state.
GREAT JOB WARRIORS!!!
CAI Track and Field Opens Season in Impressive Fashion
CAI Track opened its season this past weekend at Purdue University. The season is definitely looking up. Freshman McKenna Cavanaugh destroyed the previous school record in the 3200 meter run by 1:48 sec. Previously, she set the school record in the 1600m as a seventh grader. Definitely a Warrior-like performance. We look forward to the Warrior track team continuing to make noise with their feet.
