Cross Country Qualifies for State / Futter Semi-State Champion
Saturday marked a couple of major accomplishments for the CAI Cross Country team. For the first time in program history, the entire boys team has qualified for the State Meet. This also marks the first boys program in school history to make it to this stage. Overall, the team finished 3rd at Semi-State, missing out on 2nd by just two points.
Another notable moment from the Semi-State meet was Caleb Futter. Caleb raced to the finish line in a time of 15:08, which put him in the top spot as the Semi-State Individual Champion! Coming in 4th was Skylar Stidam and in the 18th spot was Bryce Dunn.
The lone runner on the girls side was McKenna Cavanaugh, who ran a solid race, placing 16th overall with a time of 18:47.3. This placement was good enough to qualify her for the State Meet. As a junior, it’s notable to mention that this will be McKenna ’s third consecutive trip to the Cross Country State Meet!
The State Meet takes place this Saturday in Terre Haute at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course (Wabash Valley Sports Center, 599 S. Tabortown Road, Terre Haute, IN). The boys race at 1 p.m. and McKenna will run at 1:45 p.m.
Volleyball Wins Regionals and Heads to Semi-State
On Saturday, the Lady Warriors took to the court in the first ever 2A Regional Tournament at Mitchell High School. CAI would have to get through two teams in order to take home their 5th consecutive Regional Title. For the first time, the Warriors have had to face tough 2A competition throughout their quest for the State Finals. Saturday certainly presented another challenge. First the Warriors faced North Decatur. Despite some pushback in the first and third sets, CAI earned the 3-0 win over the Chargers (25-18, 25-8, 25-19). In the Championship match, the Warriors faced Mater Dei for the first time since their loss to the Wildcats in 2016. The Wildcats took the first set 22-25, but your Warriors battled back and took the next three sets (25-15, 25-18, 27 – 25) from the Wildcats. This marks the first time a CAI team has taken home the 2A Regional title! The Warriors were led by two seniors throughout the day. Nicole Collins showed tremendous effort, putting up big numbers in the back row on defense with 27 digs for her team. Alli Stumler continued her strong play all-around, with 30 digs of her own and 51 kills as well. The Warriors move on to face Covenant Christian on Saturday in the Semi-State match. The game will take place at Jasper High School (1600 ST. Charles Street Jasper, IN) at 4 p.m. |
Volleyball Wins First Ever 2A Title
On Thursday, the Warriors kicked off the 2A State Tournament series and were given the honor of hosting the Sectional 46 Tournament. The Warriors came out strong, not dropping a set throughout the entire series. Thursday night featured a successful 3-0 outing against Henryville. Saturday morning the Warriors faced off against the reigning Sectional Champions, Paoli, where they came up with another 3-0 sweep of the Rams. Saturday night, the Warriors made history by claiming the school’s first 2A Sectional Championship when they defeated Eastern 3-0. |
McKenna Cavanaugh Claims Second Sectional Title
McKenna Cavanaugh crossed the finish line first in the girls race, more than five seconds ahead of any other runner in the race. This marks the second year in a row McKenna finished first at Sectionals. This Warrior continues to advance in the post-season and to date has qualified through to the Semi-State Meet. |
Boys Cross Country Secures Second Consecutive Sectional Championship
On October 7, the CAI Boys Cross Country Team earned their second consecutive Sectional Championship. In Indiana, Cross Country runs as one class, so the Warriors took on schools like Floyd Central, New Albany and Jeffersonville and came out with a commanding finish in first place. In fact, the first three runners to cross the finish line were all from CAI! With all three finishing together, they had to award places to each one and in the end, Skylar Stidam took the top spot, with Caleb Futter in second and Bryce Dunn in third. In fact, all five scoring runners for CAI finished in the top 11 spots. What an accomplishment! |
Alli Stumler Reaches Major Milestone
On September 5, in our game against Seymour, Alli Stumler tallied her 1,000th career dig, showing her ability to read the ball, defend against the opponents’ attacks and help put her team in the best place to score points. This Warrior not only plays a strong defensive game, but she is also well-known for her ability to find the open floor and put points on the scoreboard for her team. In fact, back on September 19, in our game against Lanesville, Alli met a major milestone not many volleyball players can claim when she reached 1,500 career kills! Both of these numbers continue to grow, and are sure to leave a mark on CAI Volleyball for many years to come. Congratulations Alli! We are proud to call you a Warrior! |
