Christian Academy School System | COVID-19 | Procedures and Protocols

Following are the Christian Academy School System COVID Procedures and Protocols being used to stay in school safely during the 2021-2022 school year. We have consulted a variety of resources to guide these decisions, including the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC), Indiana Department of Health (IDOH), Kentucky Department of Public Health (DPH), Floyd County Health Department and Louisville Metro Health Department. Additionally, we examined our internal data and policy/procedures from the 2020-2021 school year. We will continue to monitor infection rates in our schools and in the community and will adjust guidelines as needed.

  • Staff and students will need to remain home as soon as any illness is suspected. Do not come to campus sick for school or extracurricular activities.
  • Do not send your children to school if they are awaiting COVID test results for any reason.

Masks

  • Christian Academy School System strongly recommends the use of masks for all staff and Junior Academy-12th grade students in the school building regardless of vaccination status.

Exceptions:

  • Masks are required for non-vaccinated adults who are less than three feet from a Junior Academy-12th grade student for more than 15 consecutive minutes.
  • Masks are required when riding the bus (per the CDC/State).

Quarantine

  • Vaccinated staff and students will not be required to quarantine if identified as a close contact of a COVID-19 positive individual as long as they are asymptomatic and can provide proof of vaccination.
  • Non-vaccinated staff and students will be required to quarantine if identified as a close contact of a COVID-19 positive individual.
    • Contact tracing is 6 feet for any non-masked, non-vaccinated student or staff.
    • Contact tracing is 3 feet if both the positive student and the close contact are masked.
  • Quarantine procedures will be communicated by the school when an individual is identified as a close contact.
  • Please contact your school office with any questions about picking up assignments and work for your students that must quarantine or isolate.
  • Antibody tests are not accepted by the health department as evidence for exemption from quarantine requirements. Only proof of vaccination at least two weeks prior to exposure will be accepted.
  • Home testing COVID kits will not be accepted as proof of a negative test. Only tests that have been administered by a third party will be accepted as official test results.

Reporting

  • Christian Academy School System is required to report positive cases and close contacts (names and contact information) to local health departments
  • Please report all COVID cases and quarantine requirements (due to close contact) by using the correct Google form. Emailing a teacher or the office is not sufficient. A form must be completed for each case.
  • Cases reported after 6 p.m. may not be contact traced until the next morning. Please know that if your child is identified as a close contact of someone diagnosed with COVID, you will be asked to return to school to pick up your child as soon as possible after notification.
  • If your child is identified as a close contact of someone diagnosed with COVID during school hours, you will receive a phone call from school personnel and an email will follow with detailed instructions. After school hours, you will receive a text message through CAlert, the Christian Academy emergency alert system, and an email will follow with detailed instructions.
