My wife and I have been blessed to be a part of the Christian Academy School System for 17 years! I first came to be involved at Christian Academy when we first moved back to Louisville and entered our two sons into elementary school. Almost immediately, we felt part of strong community and supporting network of families and we saw the immediate impact the teachers had on our boy’s lives as they taught with God’s love. We started becoming more involved by volunteering in the sports and fine arts programs. In fact we believed so much in the mission of the school system, that in 2006 I decided to join my wife and become an employee of Christian Academy.
I cannot wait to get to school each day! I get to see our teachers intentionally looking for ways to engage their students’ learning while challenging them to look through a biblical worldview lens. I get to experience the God-given abilities, skills, and passions of students and watch in amazement as they use those for God’s glory. I get to build relationships with parents and share with them as their children grow and mature and move into adulthood. Christian Academy has definitely been a huge part of my family’s life and I thank God daily.

In 1960, at two-weeks-old, I was adopted. God’s plan for my life had a different turn even at birth.
I was christened by my parents at two-weeks-old but my grandmother had many talks with me at a young age during my weekend visits where she explained someday that I would need to choose for myself to make Jesus my Savior.
At our family church I was raised to serve the Lord. I used my gifts of singing, working with children and serving the community but I knew there was more. At college, on the steps of Johnson Hall, my friend Janice led me to the Lord and that’s when it clicked how much I needed Jesus to lead and guide me. It was at this beautiful Christian college when Jesus awakened me. He gave me a vision to serve Him with my voice, His blessing, and to lovingly care for His children. I became a teacher and have taught for 25 years.
My father passed away and went home to be with the Lord. I became a caregiver for my mother. By His grace, He allowed me to retire and take the time to care for her until He called her home.
God then called me here to CAL. It’s my blessing and privilege to be here serving Him alongside so many. I am also still able to use my gift of voice when God allows.
This is not the end of my journey. He says He still has so much for me to do.

Our daughter spent 12 years at Christian Academy being taught and cared for by some of the most Godly people I know. I am thankful for being able to work side-by-side with people who view their jobs as more than their jobs, but also their ministries. I am often reminded of this when we see former students return just to say “hi.” Many have started careers, have children of their own and more than a few have returned to become staff members. It’s then you realize that we are more than a school – we are a family. I pray God will continue to use our family to not only educate but also show the love of Christ to our students, their families and our community.

I was first involved with Christian Academy as a parent. My three children all graduated from Christian Academy. Following God’s prompting, I came to Christian Academy as a teacher in 2008. I thought it would be for a few years while I decided my next step professionally. I have always had a passion for working with students who learn differently. I never envisioned that I would use my expertise in special education at Christian Academy. However, God had a different plan for me and He let it unfold slowly. I began working at the Rock Creek campus as an Academic Support Specialist. During that time, I was actively involved with the planning and implementation of The Providence School, which serves students with Down syndrome. I later accepted the role of Director of Educational Resources. Both of these opportunities provided me the with the ability to return to my first passion in education and continue God’s call for me at Christian Academy. Christian Academy has provided my children with a quality education centered on a biblical worldview and has provided me with a place in which I can grow and learn professionally and spiritually. I am blessed to be able to use my expertise in education in a Christ-centered environment. I am grateful for the role Christian Academy has played in my life both as a parent and a professional.

As a stay at home mom for the first 2 years of my daughter’s life, I knew I wanted to slowly get back to doing what I love to do and what I believe to be God’s purpose for my life and that is teaching preschool age children. I also knew it was time for my daughter to start building those social skills as well. I began to start looking at schools that would meet the needs of my family. My husband and I wanted our children to be surrounded by teachers and peers that had the same biblical principles that was instilled in us. We heard a lot of great things about Christian Academy and the principles in which they were founded upon.
Once I began to work at CAL Junior Academy, I then realized that Christian Academy was indeed a great school that nurtured its students with Christian beliefs. I knew it was only a matter of time before I enrolled my children in Christian Academy so that they could begin the process of learning in a Christian environment. My daughter loves coming to school and has grown academically and biblically. She comes home and sings her two favorite songs “B-i-b-l-e” and I got the “Joy, Joy, Joy down in my heart.” I recently had a baby 5 months ago and during that process my coworkers really became my family all the way down to the nursing staff. Once my son becomes eligible, we plan to enroll him at Christian Academy as well.
Here at CAL I believe we stand on Colossians 3:23 “In all the work you are doing, do it heartily as if unto The Lord, not for man.” CAL has been a blessing to my family and I know that I’m where I am supposed to be working for the Lord. CAL is a community of prayer warriors and a family that you can always count on to be there for you.

I have the distinct privilege of being both a Christian Academy employee and a CAL parent. My two sons have been students at the Southwest Campus since they were 2-years-old, and I cannot put into words the blessing it has been for me to serve in the same building every day with my boys and their classmates. Being able to see them daily interact with their teachers and friends, sharing in their special events – chapel services, classroom Christmas parties, Race for Education and even just having the opportunity to have lunch with them in the cafeteria – as a working mom, I could not ask for a better place to be!
My co-workers have become some of my dearest friends. We have shared in each other’s moments of joy and sorrow. I know that if I ask for prayer, there will be 40 of my co-workers lifting me up to the Lord. I love having the opportunity to pour into the lives of our students and it has been such a blessing to watch so many of them grow up! I am so thankful that God has given me this career – it has become so much more than just a job. It is a place where I have been able to use my God-given talents to bring glory to Him and hopefully leave a positive impact on our students and families.
