Milton Wright Wins State Track Title!
Milton Wright won a state title in the 200 and placed in three other events to lead the Centurions to a surprise 6th place finish in the team standings. The team finish was the highest ever for the boys team. Milton had an extraordinary meet winning the 200 narrowly over North Oldham's Connor Newhouse, with a new school record of 22.17. He took a huge .73 seconds off the record this season, that had stood for 13 years.
Milton also trimmed another school record on the track, running 11.06 into a slight head wind in the 100 meter to place 6th. On the field he took the runner-up spot in the long jump and 4th in the high jump.
Junior distance runner Steven Ott used scorching kicks to parley two high finishes in the 1600 & 3200. In an exciting 1600 finish, Steven used a 60 second last lap to fall just short of the gold – but was rewarded with a huge 8+ second PR. His time of 4:24.10 scared Ryan Knight's legendary 24 year old mark of 4:23.12. Steven had no time to rest on his laurels, as he did the full distance triple of 1600-800-3200, throwing in the 4×4 for good measure. He placed a strong 4th in the 3200 to medal and score valuable team points. Also competing for the boys were senior Wes Wegert who became the 2nd fastest CAL hurdler with his 17.06 time in the 110 hurdles. Will Marshall, Jacob Miller and Luke Montgomery joined Steven in the 4×400 relay, ran a strong time of 3:40.85. The race concluded outstanding careers of 4 year runners Jacob & Luke.
The girls team also had an excellent showing. Junior Maddie O'Dea medaled in three events to lead the Centurions in their 12th place team finish. Her highest finish was a repeat runner-up performance in her marquis event – the 800. She dropped a big 1.76 seconds off the school record she set last season, with her 2:18.21 time. Fellow cross country All-State teammates scored all the points for Christian Academy, with Centurions placing in all distance events. First points came in the opening event as Maddie joined Clara Lynch, Kaylee Wilson and Adelaide Ensor to place 5th place in the 4×800 relay. More points came from Maddie & Kaylee in the 1600, with their 7th & 8th place finishes. Senior Clara wrapped up an incredible track career, earning her fourth straight high finish in her trademark event 3200. Clara earned 2nd Team All-State honors with her 4th place finish. Adelaide narrowly missed scoring in the same race, still running her second fastest time ever, in spite of the hot, humid conditions. Also competing in the State Championships were a young sprint corp of Anna Kimbell, Maddie Combe, Maddie Bevin and Audrey Wright, as well as the Porter sisters in the field events – senior Ivy (pole vault) & Joslyn (long & high jump).
With most of the points scored by non-seniors and valuable experience gained at the championship level, the future looks very bright!

Samantha Minrath Named Member of US National Women’s Field Hockey Team
Samantha Minrath is only 16 years old, but she’s a member of the U.S National Team.
Last Wednesday, USA Field Hockey announced that Minrath had been called up to the U.S. women’s national indoor field hockey team that is gearing up to take part in the 2017 Pan American Indoor Cup in Guyana from Oct. 14-22. The tournament is serving as a World Cup qualifying competition for the 2018 Indoor Field Hockey World Cup in Germany.
“It’s such an honor. I was so surprised,” Minrath said in a phone interview. “I was named to the (Under-17) team last year so I expected I’d be moving up to the U-19 team this year. But when I found out it was such an honor, I’m so excited to rep Kentucky and the U of L.”
Minrath, a junior goalkeeper for Christian Academy of Louisville and her club team IFHCK, has already committed to the University of Louisville to play outdoor field hockey.
This is the second full national team call-up for Minrath. She took part in the 2017 Rohrmax Cup last January in Austria, helping lead the USA Red team to the title. Her squad faced a pair of local indoor women’s clubs as well as the Austria and Switzerland Under-21 teams.
Unlike outdoor field hockey, indoor field hockey is played on a court similar to a basketball court although with a different floor surface. Each team has five players and a goalkeeper as opposed to the standard 11 players on each side.
Despite her recent accomplishments in the sport, Minrath said she only started playing field hockey five years ago. But soon after playing as the goalkeeper of her club team, she fell in love with the sport.
“I just loved it because you get a lot of shots as a goalkeeper,” Minrath said of indoor field hockey. “Most people compare the goalkeeper to the quarterback of the team. I get the opportunity to encourage and direct people, but I also get to have high-intensity moments in the cage and circle. I enjoy those moments.”
Although she plays for the indoor national team, Minrath is also active on the outdoor field. She helped lead Christian Academy to the semifinals of the last two state tournaments. Minrath said that Louisville field hockey coach Justine Sowry, a former goalkeeper herself, was a big reason for why she committed to the Cardinals.
Although there’s no professional indoor field hockey teams here in the U.S., Minrath said there’s a chance for her to stay involved with the national team during and after college, as well as playing professionally in Europe.
“I hope to make an outdoor national team in some form but hopefully I get to play on this indoor national team until I get out of college,” Minrath said.

CAL Bowler & Father Break Guinness World Record!
Just after midnight Sunday morning Trace Wiseman and his father Steve became Guinness World Record holders after bowling for 24 straight hours.
The 16-year-old arrived at Kingpin Lanes early Saturday morning hoping to beat the existing record for the highest pin fall in 24 hours by a two-some.
Trace took on the competition with his father Steve who is also an avid bowler.
The pair had to knock down more than 30,000 pins during that period in order to break the record and officials say Trace and Steve knocked down more than 35,000 pins.
“We had a dream a year and a half ago. It was his. And we didn't think we'd be able to do it. Trace is about passed out after that last hour but we fulfilled a dream that he had to set a Guinness book record,” Steve said on Facebook shortly after the pair accomplished the incredible feat.
Trace is a student at Christian Academy in Louisville where he is captain of the bowling team.
We're told Trace is usually on the lanes about four or five days a week and aspires to be a professional bowler.

5 CAL Athletes Sign to Play at College Level
Congratulations to CAL seniors, Hope Clark, Nina Dobbs, Rachel Howard, Michael Woodward and Hayden Zimmerer all signed letters of intent yesterday to play at the collegiate level.
The signing ceremony was opened in prayer by superintendent, Tim Greener. CAL Director of Athletics, Brad Morgan, emceed the ceremony and offered congratulations on behalf of the school and athletic department.
“It takes tremendous time and hard work to reach this point,” said AD Morgan. “Very few athletes make it to this day and get to participate in college athletics. God has blessed Christian Academy with not only tremendous athletes, but Godly young men and women. We are extremely proud of all of you.”
Each athlete was recognized by their coach who shared past accomplishments and struggles to get to this day. Parents shared stories about years of playing their sport, while the athletes thanked parents, teammates, coaches, teachers and friends for their support. Many of them acknowledged the time and commitment by their parents to get them to this level.
“I am grateful for the friendships I have made and to CAL for the opportunities it has provided me,” said Rachel Howard. “I’m now a Viking, but I’ll always be a Centurion.”
“Each and every one of you are a huge part of the CAL Athletic program. We want you to know that you will always be a part of the CAL family. We will be praying for you and following your college career. When you leave these walls I challenge you to be a light for Jesus on your campus. God has called you to make a difference.” said AD Morgan.
The ceremony concluded with all 5 athletes officially signing their letters of intent. CAL student athletes signed with the following schools:
Hope Clark, swimming – Asbury University
Nina Dobbs, lacrosse – Berry College

CAL Bowler & Coach Attempt to Break Guinness Record this Saturday
CAL junior bowler, Trace Wiseman, and his dad CAL head bowling coach, Steve Wiseman, will attempt to break an existing world record and set an official Guinness World Record for the most pins knocked down in 24 hours by a twosome. The current record was set in 2013 by 2 gentleman in west Texas.
Trace & Coach Wiseman have been officially approved by Guinness to attempt to break the record. Two months ago, the father/son duo held a 12-hour continuous bowling practice session and knocked down 17,756 pins, a pace that will easily break the record of 30,537 pins in 24 hours, provided their endurance can hold out.
An official adjudicator from Guinness will attend the last 8 hours of the event and present the new record award at midnight if the record is broken. The record attempt will be held this Saturday, April 22nd at Kingpin Lanes. Good luck Team Wiseman!
