With early season victories over Assumption and Sacred Heart (the last two state champions), CAL carried serious momentum into the 48th Annual Apple Invitation Tournament hosted at Sacred Heart Academy.

CAL was matched up with Mercy Academy for a Friday night. Shortly after halftime the Centurions the score was 10-0 and the game was over. Saturday offered a rematch from a week earlier where CAL knocked off the defending state champion Assumption High School. Could the Centurions defeat the aggressive Rockets twice in one week? CAL struck early and has Assumption on their heels, carrying a 2-0 lead into halftime.  But, as they are known to do, Assumption fought back and made this one very tight. In a tight third quarter the action flowed back and forth, before Assumption narrowed the CAL lead 2-1 and appeared to regain some competitive fire. CAL responded in short order with a beautiful goal by Elise. The CAL faithful breathed a sigh of relief, thankful to regain a two goal lead. It turns out they needed it because Assumption struck again on a breakaway goal to bring the score to 3-2. The CAL defense locked down and fought off the charging Rockets to hold onto a narrow 3-2 victory to set up another rematch with Sacred Heart Academy for the coveted Apple championship.

The championship game did not disappoint in a hard fought back and forth between SHA and CAL, that ended in a 1-1 tie at the end of regulation. The Centurions, playing their 5^th game in 7 days fought with every ounce of their being. With time running out in the sudden death overtime period, Anne Marie Krebs broke away and knocked in the winning goal. The Centurions are Apple Champions again for the first time since 2017 (coincidentally the last year they won the state championship)! 5 games in 7 days. 5 wins in 7 days. Double wins over the last two state champions.

The Centurion Armory will have a sidewalk sale JULY 14 -16th from 2pm-7pm. The Centurion Armory will be RE-OPENING this summer to have our end of school year sale!!! The 2020 CAL Athletics Golf Classic has been rescheduled for Monday, September 14, 2020 at Persimmon Ridge Golf Club.  This is the athletic department's ONLY fundraiser and benefits the Christian Academy KY campus teams.  Proceeds are used towards equipment, facility improvements, uniforms, coaching development and training needs.

Congratulations to Gabi Albiero who won her 9th individual State swimming title in her final race as a Centurion this past weekend.  Gabi took 1st place in the 100 Butterfly AND the 50 Free where she broke her own State record!  The CAL girls swim team finished 2nd place overall.

Congratulations to JP Schroering who came in first place at last week’s Region 5 diving meet and broke the school record of 329.20 for an 11 dive meet !

JP will head to the State diving tournament on February 20th in
Lexington.  Good luck JP!

Congratulations to seniors, Stingray Miller, Maddie Coombe, Henry Fetter and Lindsay Bohn who all signed letters of intent on Wednesday, February 5th to play at the college level.

“It takes so much hard work and sacrifice to get to this level,” said CAL Director of Athletics, Brad Morgan. “It’s exciting to celebrate each of these athletes as individuals, but each of them have been key contributors to their teams’ successes as well.”

The athletes took the podium to thank parents, teammates, coaches and friends for their support.

Each athlete was recognized by their coach who shared stories and encouraged them to continue their success on their respective campuses.

The ceremony concluded with all 4 athletes officially signing letters of intent to the following schools:

Lindsay Bohn (Volleyball) – Centre College 

Maddie Coombe (Field Hockey) – Ohio University 

Henry Fetter (Baseball) – Asbury University 

Stingray Miller (Football) – Coffeyville Community College

Congratulations to the CAL Girls Basketball team for winning the 2A State Championship for the 2nd year in a row!  The back-to-back champs defeated a talented team from Mercer Co. 61-55 to win the state title again this year.  Senior, Shelby Calhoun was named tournament MVP and the following players were named All Tournament Team: Mia Beam, Jaya McClure, Sydney Raque & Shelby Calhoun.  

Congratulations to both the Centurion Girls and Boys Basketball teams who won the KY 2A sectional final last Friday night and will head to Owensboro this week for the KY 2A State Championships.  The boys team will play Thursday, Jan. 16th at 4pm EST and the girls team will play Friday, Jan. 17th at 8pm EST.  The Lady Centurions are looking to defend their 2A State Title!  All games are played at the Owensboro Sports Center in Owensboro, KY.
