State Champions! CAL Boys and Girls Swim Teams Combine to Win Title

For the first time in school history, the Christian Academy of Louisville swimmers are STATE CHAMPIONS!

It was an exciting weekend as the CAL Boys and Girls Swim Teams participated in the KHSAA State Swim Championships and came home with numerous awards! Three individual state champions, All-State honors, Outstanding Competitor Award, Coach of the Year recognition and most importantly the State Championship for Combined Boys and Girls Teams.

CAL had 12 swimmers advance to the state meet held at the University of Louisville Natatorium that began with preliminary heats on Friday, Feb. 26th and continued with finals on Saturday, Feb. 27th.

For the boys, Junior Nick Albiero easily defended his two individual state titles. Favored to win both the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke, Nick coasted to victory in both races, just .5 and .6 off the State Record in each event. Nick led off the 200 Free Relay setting a new school record with a 20.90 in the 50 Free and broke his own school record in the 100 Fly (47.63). Both men’s relays, 200 Medley and 200 Free (Albiero, Jason Coultrap, Broder Magnuson, Jake Burd), also set new school record. Nicks performances earned him All-State Team honors as well as Outstanding Competitor of the meet.

Head Coach Amy Albiero was especially proud of the boys team this year. Last year the boys finished 8th overall, and this year they earned a well deserved 4th place finish! Others participating for the boys were:

Senior- Jason Coultrap-50 free; 100 free; 200 Medley Relay; 200 Freestyle Relay
Jake Burd-100 Breastroke; 200 Medley Relay; 200 FreeStyle Relay;
Broder Magnuson-200 Medley Relay; 200 Freestyle Relay

Next up was the girls meet. The CAL Girls Team’s performance was outstanding and contributed greatly to Christian Academy’s win in the Combined Team category.

The most exciting victory of the night belonged to eighth grader Gabi Albiero. Surprising herself, Gabi raced to an amazing 1st place finish in the 50 freestyle. Setting a NEW state record and school record (22.80) and beating out a heavily favored senior for the championship, Gabi exited the pool deck to a very happy group of CAL family and friends and embraced her coach and mother, Amy Albiero. Gabi also took 4th place in the 100 freestyle and was a member of the 200 and 400 Freestyle Relays that set new school records. Her performances earned her All-State Team honors. New school records were also set by: Cameron Brown – 200 Free (1:49.94), and Rachel Howard – 100 Breast (1:05.06).

Among the girls division the CAL swimmers finished 3rd overall. Others swimming for the girls team were:

Senior-Cameron Brown-200 freestyle; 500 freestyle; 200 Freestyle Relay; 400 Freestyle Relay
Hope Clark- 200 freestyle; 100 freestyle; 200 Freestyle Relay; 400 Freestyle Relay
Christin Eckerle- 100 Butterfly; 200 Medley Relay
Rachel Howard-200 Individual Medley; 100 Breastroke; 200 Freestyle Relay; 400 Freestyle Relay

Allie Rassenfoss-200 Individual Medley; 200 Backstroke; 200 Medley Relay
Julia Roy-100 Butterfly; 500 freestyle; 200 Medley Relay

Fortunately, for Christian Academy the awards were not limited to the swimmers. Head Coach Amy Albiero was selected from among her peers to receive the Tim Cahill Most Outstanding Coach of Year Award.

Congratulations to Coach Amy and the entire staff for their support to the swimmers at Christian Academy of Louisville.

Scotty Krantz Signs to Play Football at Lindsey Wilson College

Congratulations to senior, Scotty Krantz, who signed a letter of intent to play football at Lindsey Wilson College.

After several game day visits to other colleges, Scotty committed to Lindsey Wilson.

“I’ve built a good relationship with the coaches at Lindsey Wilson over the past two years, and I really like the academic drive of the school,” said Krantz.

CAL assistant football coach, Jason Hilliard said, “I’m so proud of the player Scotty has become. I always want my players to be better when they leave here and that is true for Scotty.”

“Scotty was a great leader for us this season. His leadership is by action and hard work, which was a great example for our younger players,” said CAL head football coach, Stefan LeFors. “Scotty never missed a day in the weight room. We asked him to play a new position and he stepped up and embraced it.”

Scott Krantz, Scotty’s father, echoed Coach LeFors’ praise of his positive attitude and dedication.

“Scotty just goes in and does the job without complaining. We have made wonderful memories watching him play football over the years,” said Mr. Krantz.

Scotty concluded the signing ceremony by thanking his parents and coaches for keeping him in line and being great role models.

“Centre is a great academic school and I fit in well with the football team and people there,” said Lewellyn.

“Cal has been a major contributor on the field throughout his 4 years in our program. He has spoiled us as coaches and fans with his playmaking ability. His knack for being in the right place at the right time is not a coincidence. Cal will excel at the college level and I look forward to following him at Centre,” said CAL head football coach, Stefan LeFors.

Cal’s father, Mark Lewellyn, spoke about the years they have been a part of CAL football.

“I am so proud of the football career Cal has had at Christian Academy. We have been a part of the CAL football program since 2005. We are so grateful for the brotherhood it has provided and are thankful for what it has meant to our family,” said Mark.

CAL Middle School Basketball is Reminded to Give This Season

For the week of December 30th, our 8th grade boys’ basketball team was very busy with three games — Shelby East Middle School, Crosby Middle School and East Oldham Middle School. Although we didn’t have any wins this week, the boys played hard and had a lesson of compassion!

After the game with East Oldham Middle School on Thursday night, the Oldham team members gave each 8th grade CAL player an envelope with $100 in it and the following note:

It is more blessed to give than to receive. Acts 20:35
This cash is for you to share with anyone, an in any way, between now and Christmas Day. We hope you get caught up in the spirit of the season, which is giving with love.

Get creative and have fun with it. Give a large amount or several small amounts. Here are a few ideas: Make a care pack (toothbrush, toothpaste, snacks) find a homeless person to give it to – regardless of whether or not you think he “deserves” it. Everyone deserves to be loved. Leave an extra tip for your waitress. Buy flowers to give others. Buy a meal for someone. Make cookies for your local fire/police department, deliver them with love and gratitude.

Take advantage of the time you have to love others and be generous when you can. There is only one rule: you have to give it directly to the recipient. No middle men. No donations to a charitable organization. Merry Christmas to you.

Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Ephesians 4:2 NIV

What an incredible message! How blessed we are!
