Girls Swim Team Finishes 2nd at Regionals

Congratulations to the girls and boys swim team at Regionals over the weekend.  The girls took 2nd to Sacred Heart while the boys finished 8th.  CAL’s Senior, Hannah Magnuson, led the girls to two 2nd place finishes in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke, while Freshman, Nick Albiero, led the boys with a 3rd in the 100 butterfly and 4th in the 100 backstroke. 

I am so proud of how our entire team stepped up on Saturday.  We finished our season with over 85% personal best times. That is quite an accomplishment and says a lot about the effort we put forth as a team”, said Coach Albiero.  

Other top finishers for the girls were: Cameron Brown 3rd in 200 freestyle and 5th in the 500 Freestyle, Rachel Hughes 5th in the 100 Breaststroke, and all the relays 200 medley and 400  freestyle 2nd and the 200 freestyle 4th.  Other top finishers for the boys were: Austin Schaper with two 4th place finishes in the 50 and 100 freestyle and Jason Coultrap with two 5th place finishes in the 50 and 100 freestyle.  

The State team will be selected on Monday evening after all Regions have competed.  The State meet will be held at UofL Feb. 28-29, 2014.  Good Luck at State, CAL!

MS Baseball Tryouts to be held Feb. 15

Middle School (6-8 grade) baseball tryouts will be from 6-8 pm at Legends Sports Academy on Saturday, February 15th. All players must be registered through the athletic dept. and have a current physical on file. Legends is located on Electron Dr. off Watterson Trail near Skyview Park in Jtown.

UL Honors CAL Alum Antonita Slaughter

On Monday, March 3rd, the University of Louisville will honor 2010 CAL graduate, Antonita Slaughter on Senior Night. The Cards take on Connecticut at the KFC Yum Center at 7:00pm.  Tickets are only $4.00. 

Chad Lewellyn Signs with Navy

On Thursday, senior Chad Lewellyn, signed a letter of intent to play football for the United States Naval Academy.

“I’m extremely proud of Chad. His parents and grandparents are his greatest supporters and I’m excited for him. Chad is a special player. He’s done so much for our program and has tremendous skill. I have been blessed to coach Chad and can’t wait to follow him in his football career,” said CAL head football coach, Stefan LeFors.

“I’m unbelievably proud of Chad. CAL has prepared him for the Naval Academy academically and athletically,” said an emotional Mark Lewellyn, Chad’s father.

“I felt at home when I visited Navy. Their campus is beautiful and it is just a good fit for me,” said Lewellyn.
Chad thanked his parents, his grandfather, and his friends for their support. He also thanked Coach LeFors for pushing him to be a better football player. Chad plans to major in engineering next fall.

Chad has received numerous awards including All District team (2011, 2012, 2013), 3rd Team All State (2013), Team Captain (2013), Offensive MVP (2012, 2013), Best of Bluegrass Game (receiver), and the Centurion Award (overall team MVP 2013).
