Christian Academy’s Providence School serving students with Down syndrome is blessed to be a 2023 WHAS Crusade for Children Grant recipient!

Helping families and students plan for transition beyond high school is an important part of school. Providence School will use the grant money to purchase resources that allow us to build in additional training for students to be ready to show employers that they have the vocabulary, reading and math skills necessary to be successful on the job.

The Project Discovery Career Education/Transition System will be purchased with the grant funds. This hands-on, discovery based curriculum is flexible and allows students to be active learners as they practice job skills. Providence students will receive instruction in academic, social-emotional, language and motor skills alongside job and life readiness skills. Once students have experience with these tasks within a school setting, they will be ready to practice those skills in community settings. With these resources, students will gain key employability and independent living skills that they will use in their communities to live meaningful, productive lives. This grant will open doors for students to be world-changers as they pursue careers with strong skills gained from the training.

Introducing the Director of Biblical Unity, Deon Parker

Christian Academy School System | Biblical Unity

We are excited to welcome Deon Parker, Director of Biblical Unity at Christian Academy!

The Director of Biblical Unity is identified as a spiritual mentor and a resource for all students, teachers, administrators and parents in the school system. Mr. Parker will work alongside others to create/foster a unified school community where all students are respected, valued and appreciated. In addition, he will work with the Directors of Spiritual Formation and Administrative Services to help the Superintendent build strategic initiatives for our school system.

Mr. Parker felt a call from the Lord almost two years ago to focus on helping others see the importance of Christian unity because in his words, “biblical unity should be a part of every Christian’s discipleship.” He has built relationships with other Christian schools nationwide that are intentional in emphasizing that all people are designed in the image of God and how to live that out in today’s culture.

2023 Christian Academy of Louisville Fall Intramural Cheer

Christian Academy is blessed to be able to offer English Station and Southwest students a fall intramural cheer program for kindergarten through 5th grade girls. This offering is only possible with a high level of participation from students as well as a high level of parent volunteers. There are many benefits to being involved in athletics, including good health, social interaction, self-confidence, self-discipline and a sense of personal accomplishment. Our goal is to always be Christ-honoring in all that we do, including sports.

This intramural cheer opportunity is being sent separately from the other fall intramural sports due to the fact that cheer practice will begin in July and uniforms need to be ordered in June. CAL will offer other fall intramural sports including volleyball, cross country and tennis. Please note, students can only participate in one intramural sport per season.

Intramural cheer will cheer for our CAL youth football teams as part of the Louisville Youth Football League. Cheerleaders will have the opportunity to cheer at eight regular season games and, based on the football team’s record, the possibility of playoffs and championship games. The first game of the season is August 12, and the last will be mid-October. Cheer practice will officially begin around July 24. Teams may practice one to two days a week this summer and during the season. More detailed practice information will be sent soon.

The girls will be fitted for uniforms the week of June 12. The intramural cheer fee will be $160. This includes a seven piece uniform (bow, cheer top, skirt, liner [long sleeve under shirt], bloomers and poms) that you get to keep. The cheer teams will also have the opportunity to purchase items such as cheer backpacks, shirts, shorts and shoes via an online cheer team store. These items are optional.

Intramural cheer season will officially end at the end of the youth football season. However, the cheer teams may choose to participate in the LYFL post season cheer showcase if desired. This would be considered optional and the cost to participate is not included in the intramural cheer fee. Intramural sports do not fundraise so additional expenses will need to be covered by the participants.
