Christian Academy Weather Delay and Closing Reminders

We understand that a decision on whether or not to close schools during inclement weather has a big impact on our families. As always, when we make that decision, our number one priority is the safety of students and staff.

When faced with inclement weather, we have four options to consider:

  • a normal school day
  • a two-hour delay
  • a Remote Snow Day: If Christian Academy has a remote snow day, all assignments will be loaded onto your child’s Canvas (6th-12th) or Google Classroom (K-5th) by 9 a.m. There will not be live or Zoom classes on remote snow days.
  • a canceled school day that may be made up later in the school year

Our goal is to make all decisions no later than 6 a.m. so parents can make childcare plans. Keep in mind, it’s not always easy to make that call early. Occasionally, we have to make a decision based on a forecast and since meteorology is not an exact science, sometimes that forecast doesn’t pan out. Please remember we are doing all we can to do what’s best for students and staff.

There are several steps we take when deciding on closing or delaying school start times. Planning begins as soon as there is a forecast for inclement weather. We have a team that closely monitors the weather throughout the night. We check the radar, consult with local meteorologists and, if necessary, drive the roads to check conditions. We also take into consideration our facilities’ parking lots and sidewalks.

Christian Academy students reside in 11 different counties and there are 30 miles between each of our three campuses which can result in a dramatic difference in road conditions. We make two independent decisions: Christian Academy of Indiana and English Station/Southwest.

Once a decision has been made, the next step is to communicate that decision. Notifications are sent through CAlert; this is our main and first communication! Please make sure that your information and contact numbers and email addresses are up to date in FACTS Family Portal(Please Note: We only send alerts if there is a delay, closing or for a Remote Snow Day.)

Other items of interest for parents concerning snow days:

  • Occasionally, Junior Academy, After-school Care and/or extracurricular events may be canceled or called for early pick-up if weather occurs during the day. All notifications will be communicated through CAlert and athletic communications.
  • Extracurricular activities will be reviewed on an individual basis by the school principal in conjunction with system administration. There have been many instances where roads were too treacherous for school to begin but were clear by the afternoon.

Stay Under the Tuscan Sun in Cortona, Italy for 5 Nights in a Private Residence, including a Private Dinner, for 6.

Made famous by the book and movie Under the Tuscan Sun, this gorgeous hill town in the center of Tuscany is the perfect base for exploring the area. The town dates back to the 13th century with the Etruscan ruins being much older. Bursting with great restaurants, shops and stunning churches from many periods, Cortona offers much to do and see.

For the nights, you’ll relax in a private, 3 bedroom (accommodating 6), 2.5 bathroom residence. The property is within walking distance of the historic center of Cortona, within the Etruscan walls.

One can admire and enjoy a splendid view over the Val di Chiana. The painted walls and the coffered and ornate ceiling establish that Casa Degli Affreschi was once a noble residence.

Enjoy a private 4-course dinner including a starter, pasta, main course with a side dish and dessert with drinks (selection of red and white wines from regional cellars, water and coffee).

If you have any questions or require further information, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Adrienne Crosby, Director of Development, at acrosby@caschools.us or (502) 753-4585.

Give Blood and Help Save Lives at CAL-English Station, January 23

Give Blood and Help Save Lives at CAI, February 1

Christian Academy of Indiana is hosting a blood drive on campus on Thursday, February 1, 2024 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is open to all students ages 16 and up, parents and staff. The support for this event has been tremendous thus far and we would love to get as many people as possible.

As an incentive, the Red Cross is offering a free tshirt and a $20 Amazon gift card to all who donate at CAI in February. We are extremely grateful to the Red Cross for this opportunity! Health concerns are always taken into consideration during blood drives. There are height, weight, travel and pregnancy requirements as well. If you are unsure about your eligibility, you can visit this link to learn more.

If you are a student, please be sure to talk to your parents about participating. If you are 16-years-old, you cannot donate blood without parental consent. After indicating your age when you sign up, we will follow up with you concerning a parental consent form. To date, 77 individuals from CAI have expressed their willingness to donate but there is room for approximately 120 total people to step up in this way. We appreciate how well this has been received and the Red Cross is beyond thrilled to continue this partnership in the future.

If you would like to donate, please fill out this Google Form to confirm. I will be in contact with all those who choose to participate regarding the next steps in the process. For more information, visit redcrossblood.org or feel free to email Cole Graves at cg569@castudents.us with any questions. Thank you for considering taking part in this amazing opportunity!

2024-2025 Priority Admission for Siblings of Current Students

We are thankful that you have chosen to partner with us for your child’s Christian education and we want to continue to serve your family well. Your current, continuously enrolled students just received information regarding enrollment fees for the 2024-2025 school year. There is nothing you need to do to continue their enrollment. However, we would like to remind you that if you have a child in your family that is not currently enrolled and will be a new incoming student at Christian Academy for the 2024-2025 school year, please submit a 2024-2025 application online as soon as possible. It is always our desire to give siblings of current students priority consideration so now is the time to submit your application for the upcoming school year. If you have already submitted an application, we are thankful you desire to continue our partnership! Also, if your child is currently in Junior Academy PK4, it is time to submit an application for kindergarten.

Admissions testing for new students who have applied to enter grades K-12 for the 2024-2025 school year is currently being scheduled. Upon receiving your application, we will contact you to confirm a testing date for your child. Admissions testing is not required to enter our Junior Academy.

We are thankful to already have many new applications on file for the 2024-2025 school year so it is important for you to move forward with submitting your application if you have a child in your family that is not currently enrolled in Christian Academy. You will find the application here once you log in with your FACTS Family Portal credentials.

Thank you for making Christian Academy your school of choice and for entrusting your children to us. Should questions arise, please contact me by email at lbaechtel@caschools.us or phone at (502) 753-4590. It would be my pleasure to serve you.

Once again, we are thankful for your continued partnership!

2023-2024 Christian Academy Board of Directors Nominations

The Christian Academy School System Board of Directors requests assistance from Christian Academy families, faculty and staff with identifying parents/guardians of Christian Academy students who may be called to serve as a member of the Board of Directors. This is a great opportunity for you to impact the governance of our school system by identifying individuals whose hearts are committed to the Lord, whose mission is aligned with Christian Academy’s and who may become the leaders of this school system.

Review the nomination guidelines in the following link to the Nomination Form and prayerfully consider the families with whom you have interacted over the past few years. Please obtain approval from the nominee before submitting his/her name.
