Your child may not practice or tryout until the online registration is complete, athletic fee is paid, and the physical is turned in to the athletic field. CAL Hosts Special Olympics Basketball League
Christian Academy of Louisville is currently hosting the Special Olympics Basketball League on Wednesday evenings throughout January and February. CAL has hosted the league, which includes 19 teams from Louisville and surrounding counties, for the past 10 years. Former CAL high school girls’ Health and PE teacher,Valerie Cook, was the league director prior to moving to China last year to teach English.
“We rely heavily on high school volunteers for gym set-up, score keeping, clock, gym management, and concession stand workers… many of whom are finishing their 4th year as volunteers. It’s so fulfilling to see how our high school students interact with the athletes,” said English Station Elementary Principal and League Director, Rebecca Thompson.
“Being able to serve not only humbles me, it excites me and I can hardly wait for the next game,” said CAL senior, Ryan Long, who has volunteered with Special Olympics for 4 years. “After serving with them for four years, I can easily say that the athletes that participate in Special Olympics Basketball are the kindest human beings I’ve ever come into contact with as well as some of the most athletic.”
The league state tournament is held the 2nd weekend of March in Louisville and concludes with a dance for the athletes that CAL will host on Saturday, March 9th. Games are held in the red and blue gyms at the English Station campus every Wednesday in January and February from 6:00-8:00. Come out and share in the excitement!
Rod Tabb Spirit Award Nominations Now Being Accepted
Christian Academy of Louisville is pleased to accept nominations for the Rodman Tabb Spirit Award.
Mr. Tabb was Christian Academy’s most loyal and faithful fan. His years of dedication, service, and support to CAL as a Guidance Counselor and unwavering support of Centurion Athletics serve as the foundation as we remember CAL’s greatest fan. Rarely could a Centurion athlete compete without Mr. Tabb being in attendance and never could a Centurion athletic contest be held without him knowing the outcome.
The Rodman Tabb Spirit Award was created to honor and recognize supporters, coaches, and
participants in CAL Athletics who have demonstrated their allegiance to Centurion Sports through faithfulness, sacrifice, service and Christian values. This award recognizes those who cherish and value CAL Athletics the way Mr. Tabb did – with enthusiasm, joy, love and honor. Athletic competition is based on preparation, dedication, sacrifice and effort and these traits are what help us develop into the servants God has called us to be. Rodman Tabb exemplified each of these characteristics, selflessly giving of his time to encourage and cheer on thousands of Centurion athletes.
The Rodman Tabb Spirit Award is given annually to the supporter, coach, staff member, or athlete who has exemplified the traits that Mr. Tabb taught us in supporting our sports teams.
Nomination Criteria:
• The award is meant to recognize multiple years of service to Christian Academy Athletics.
• It is an award of recognition, encouragement, faithfulness, and service.
• Nominees are submitted to the Athletic Office and selected leaders will review all nominees and make the final decision of the award recipient.
• Each nomination should include a detailed description of the nominee’s contribution to CAL Athletics.
• Nominations can be submitted by CAL students, staff, and supporters.
• Nominations must be submitted to the Athletic Office by January 27th, 2013.
The award will be presented at the Senior Night Basketball game on February 9th, 2013.

Women’s Swimming Continues Undefeated Season
Congratulations to the Women’s Swim Team as they continue their UNDEFEATED SEASON! The women won the meet against all 3 Oldham County Schools on Nov. 30th, and followed the next day with wins over Collegiate and Eastern. The Men’s Swim Team also won the double dual against Eastern and Collegiate, while also beating all three Oldham County Schools.
“Our men’s victory over North Oldham was a nice feat, as we have been beaten by them 2 times already this season. It was a wonderful team effort. All our men really stepped up!!!” said head coach Amy Albiero.
On Saturday, Dec. 15th, our women won the Eastern Holiday Care A Van Meet, while the men came in 2nd to Ballard. All our relays proved very strong, and I was extremely excited for first time event winner, Jordan Paulson, in the 50 Backstroke.
Competition will resume in January for the Centurions! GO CAL!
An Early Christmas Gift for CAL Athletics
Dear Athletic Parents,
We have received a Christmas gift we would like to share with you! An anonymous donor has stepped forward and generously offered to match donations so that we may finish funding the Softball Lights Campaign before May 1, 2013. As many of you know, we must secure the funds to finish this project by next May in order to hit the Title IX deadline.
Our softball student athletes are working very hard to raise funds, but they need everyone’s help to raise the remaining $30,000 needed to fully fund this project. The donor is willing to match donations up to $15,000, which would get us to our $30,000 goal. As an athletic family, we need everyone to come together to support this project. The is not just a softball team project – this effort touches the entire athletic family as our highest fundraising priority and we cannot move on to other projects until this is complete.
Please consider a tax deductible gift today that will be matched dollar-for-dollar. Together, we can raise $15,000 by May 1. No gift is too small, and every gift will make an impact.
To make a pledge or donation online visit www.caschools.us/english-station-softball-lights. You can also mail in your contributions directly to us. The Development Office will be staffed during the holiday break to process year end gifts for tax purposes.
We want you to know how thankful we are to have such a wonderful group of parents to partner with.Merry Christmas!
Please feel free to contact Jenny Druschke in the Development Department with any questions at 753-4524 or jdruschke@caschools.us .
