The Mid-American Conference announced its weekly field hockey awards on Tuesday. Junior forward Allie Grace Joyner was named MAC Offensive Player of the Week.

Joyner continued her impressive start to the season this week with her second multi-goal game in the last three games. Playing at No. 25 Michigan State on Friday, Joyner tallied the assist on the game-tying goal late in the second quarter. On Sunday in Miami’s 5-1 win over Saint Francis, Joyner scored twice. Her first goal was a strong individual effort as she intercepted a Red Flash pass at the 25 and took the ball into the circle on her own and finished the play. Joyner’s second goal of the game was part of a team effort as she scored on a rebound as Miami was strong on the attack of the Saint Francis goal. Joyner played a big role in Miami’s offense taking the most shots in a single game in program history (46) in the Sunday game against Saint Francis. The RedHawks also earned 18 attacking penalty corners against the Red Flash.

With her five points this week, Joyner set a new career-high for points in a single season and has tied her career-high in goals. She currently leads the conference in goals and points.

This is the first time this season and second time in her career that Joyner has earned MAC Offensive Player of the Week honors. Joyner was also named Miami Female Athlete of the Week on Monday for the second time this season.

Miami hosts the MAC opener on Friday against Ball State at 1 p.m. for faculty/staff appreciation day. The RedHawks then host No. 11 Northwestern on Sunday at noon for OneLove day.

Allie Grace is a 2017 CAL Graduate.
