In what is probably a first in the history of CAI athletics (and Graceland Christian Schools before that), two former CAI teammates are now competing together on the same NCAA Division 1 team. Krista Boesing (CAI class of 2015) and Sierra Rayzor (CAI class of 2017), both four-year starters on the CAI volleyball team, are now playing for the Samford University Bulldogs in the Southern Conference. Samford University kicked off their 2017 season at The Courtyard by Marriott Invitational in Birmingham, AL. Both Rayzor and Boesing were starters in all three matches played over the two day event. Rayzor led the team in blocks with 15 and Boesing led the team in kills with 49. Boesing was named to the All-Tournament Team. At CAI, Rayzor was on the 2015 IHSAA state championship team, as well as being a two-time state finalist in 2014 and 2016. Boesing was a state finalist in 2014. Samford University won the Southern Conference Tournament last year and received an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. They lost in the first round to the fourth seeded University of Kansas Jayhawks. |
