At Wednesday’s Senior Awards ceremony, Director of Athletics, Darin Long, recognized several seniors for their leadership, character, and academic excellence while participating in varsity sports at Christian Academy.
The following awards were presented:
2013 CAL Stars: Catherine Collins and Sam Stone
The CAL Stars award is given for outstanding Christian Character, Attitude, Leadership,
Sportsmanship, Teamwork, Achievement, Respect of peers, & School Spirit in Christian Academy of Louisville Athletics. This year marks the 30th year the CAL Stars award has been presented.
“Sam’s Christian character is off the charts and always has an “A+” attitude. He always puts the team ahead of himself and encourages others to do the same. He sees himself as just another team member regardless of age or ability. Sam has earned many honors playing baseball but is only interested in the team’s achievements. Additionally, he involves himself in many other school activities even being the Centurion mascot for football games,” said CAL Head Baseball coach, Tim Brown.
CAL Head Girls soccer coach, John Zutt, said, “Catherine exemplifies all the characteristics of the CAL STARS Award. Catherine is a leader by example on and off the field; always demonstrating a solid work ethic and was always willing to set the bar high regarding her training and team commitment. She has always been responsible, courteous, and pleasant to coach with a teachable spirit. She succeeded in all aspects of balancing her Christian faith, academic achievements, her competitiveness, and willingness to volunteer to support others. Catherine will embrace, respect, and honor this award in the highest of regards.”
